Tucson Call Center

Tucson is the largest city in southern Arizona and the second largest in the State. As of the 2006 Census Bureau report, the city’s population was estimated to be 525,529. It is the site of the University of Arizona. The name Tucson is derived from the Spanish name of the city Tucson which means “at the base of a black hill” which is a reference to an adjacent volcanic mountain. The city is sometimes referred to as “The Old Pueblo.”

Tucson’s economic development centers on the development of University of Arizona which is the second largest employer in the city. The presence of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and a US Army Intelligence Center has led to the development of a significant number of high-tech industries, including government contractors in the area. Presently, there are more than 1,200 businesses employing over 50,000 people in the high-tech industries of Southern Arizona. 

In 2006, financial giant Citigroup Inc. opened a customer service call center at the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park which employs 400 people. The call center brought the number of Tucson employees of New York-based Citigroup to about 1,600. Also, Afni Inc., a provider of specialized call center, collections and insurance services for US’ leading companies plans to build a new 53,000 square foot facility for a contact center.
